Русская Азия. Современность.
Русская культура, в силу исторических и географических обстоятельств, объединила в себе восточное и европейское мировоззрения. Можно долго спорить чего же в нашей культуре все таки больше: западных или восточных влияний? Нам не хотелось бы культивировать одну часть и отрекаться от другой. Ведь сплетение противоположных начал порой рождает что-то новое и уникальное.
Шрифт Nesovremenny есть метафора этого сплетения. Каждый латинский или кириллический знак шрифта похож на восточный иероглиф. В то же время, своим формообразованием шрифт отсылает нас к старорусским начертаниям. Буквы, объединяясь в слова становятся самостоятельными графическими высказываниями.
Увлечение современных российских подростков миром анимэ без отрыва от родной культуры — есть наглядный пример естественных процессов развития российской культуры. Это явление вдохновило нас на фотосессию футболок с типографическими композициями шрифта Nesovremenny.
Russian Asia. Modern Times
Due to historical and geographical factors, Russian culture combined Eastern and Western mindsets. Which of the two is more prominent? The debate on this may go on forever. We would not like to cherish just one of them and renounce the other. As a matter of fact, the fusion of the opposites may give birth to something new and unique.
The Nesovremenny (“non-contemporary”) font is a metaphor of such fusion. Each Latin and Cyrillic letter of this font looks like an Eastern hieroglyph. At the same time, the way the letters are formed, refers to old-Russian fonts. The letters, when combined into words, become self-maintained graphic statements.
When Russian teenagers become obsessed with the world of anime without breaking away from their native culture, it makes a vivid example of natural development of the Russian culture. This phenomenon inspired us to launch a photo project, using T-shirts with the Nesovremenny typography.
